Ridiculous even for the Apocalypse...

January 7th, 2022:
In the most recent week listed on the CDC's website, 251 fully vaccinated people under age 80 died from COVID. About 1,000 people die from the flu or pneumonia in an average week according to the same website. Of those 251 COVID deaths among fully vaccinated people under age 80, just 11 people were under age 50, and a total of 62 people were under age 65. Yet the Chicago teachers union is refusing to report to work (where they can use a mask, face shield, and as much hand sanitizer as they want) because of the risk. Given that 3,500 Americans die in accidents each week, I wouldn't expect members of the Chicago teachers union to risk leaving home ever again.
Comparing fully vaccinated people under 30, to unvaccinated people over 80, the later is 2,357 times more likely to die of COVID. 99.2% of deaths are from those over 50yo or unvaccinated. 96% of deaths are from those over 65yo or unvaccinated. 86.4% of deaths are from those over 80yo or unvaccinated.
If you're under 80 and care about COVID, then you're vaccinated and you can wear a mask and be as careful as you'd like. If you're over 80 you're likely retired and can stay home as much as you'd like (and get vaccinated). So we're continuing the world shutdown to protect the people that don't care about COVID, as they're the only group that is more likely to die from COVID than they are to die from the flu or an accident (not to mention heart disease and cancer).
I'll argue that these policies were absurd two years ago, but knowing the statistics, and with vaccines out for over a year now, this is ridiculous even for the apocalypse.
